Pleased to Meet You

Just the other night, at a hometown football game...my wife and I ran into, my old high school flame.
-Garth B. Ummm....forgot the name of this song.

Do you remember that song? Super cheese. I was reminded of it because just the other night, while my husband and I were drinking cocktails and eating BBQ at Stubb's, we ran into his old high school flame.

He has not seen her since high school.

All I know is, he was eating his pork rib (or whatever) and then he made this face:

"What's wrong?" I asked. Husband continued with the "I just saw a ghost" face but did not answer me.
"Are you having a stroke?" I inquired. Husband said, "My ex-girlfriend, "J", is here. Naturally, I turned around to see who he was looking at and I saw her. She was a pretty girl wearing a nice black and white dress. Something you could pick up from Old Navy. Nothing crazy.

I was wearing this dress:

But with black wedge sandals and a cool necklace. The above photo is from a few years ago. I wore that outfit to the Lady GaGa show. I did not have a full body picture from "just the other night."

The first photo in the post and the last one are from "just the other night."

Any-hoo, "J" approached the table with the dude she was with and She and Dale started talking about this and that. Basically, people and situations I know nothing about.

I sat there, in my crazy 1940's hat and 1980's dress looking like a gothic prom queen. It was the look I was going for, that night, because Dale and I were on our way to see our friends' band. LIVERDOG! Anyway, it's not necessarily what I would have planned on wearing if I knew I was about to meet Dale's conservative ex-girlfriend.

After chatting for a few minutes with "J", Dale introduced me to her and I introduced myself to her dude. They took off right after that and I told Dale that the next time he runs into an ex from the past, he is to introduce me first and talk second. He apologized and said he was just thrown off by seeing her. It was not expected and he was a little shocked.

I felt a litte odd for meeting "J" while in my Tim Burton gear. I mean, I want to make Dale look good. I want his old girlfriends to see him with me and think, "oh gee, Dale married a nice lady." not, "Oh gee, Dale is taking care of a mental patient."

I excused myself and went to the restroom where a random stranger told me, "you look amazing!"

And just like that, I felt back to my old self.

Hmmm... I bet she walked away thinking "I wish I had the guts to wear that."

You look fabulous!

You actually do look amazing. And I agree with Kimberly June - she was probably wishing she had the balls to wear what you were wearing AND have the ability to pull it off.

What? That is crazy! And I agree with all of the above... I'm sure she walked away feeling like an inferior creature.
