Cooper V. Cicada
My dogs like to eat bugs. Correction, they like to hunt, play with, and eat bugs. Usually the tend to catch June bugs. However, now that Cicada season is upon us they have changed up their game. Typically, Cooper (the more seasoned hunter) catches these creatures. He likes to bring them inside, much to our horror. We usually catch him and make him bring his prey back outdoors. Yesterday was a different story.
We were all chillin' in the house watching the television when we heard a loud thump against the sliding glass door that leads to our back patio. This alerted the dogs that their favorite treat (the cicada) had arrived. They ran through their doggie door and moments later, back into the house. I noticed that Cooper had caught the little creature and asked Dale to take care of it. He made Cooper take his prize back outside. Cooper tried to come back in several times. The cicada was still alive in his mouth making that awful buzzing noise. We had to put shut the doggie door to thwart Coopers attempts at re-entry.
Cooper continued to whine at the back door for at least 15 minutes. We went out back to encourage him to kill the darn thing. He refused and continued to whine. I told Dale that I thought we should just let him in so he could go ahead and kill the bug. I felt sorry for the cicada and just wanted it to die already.
We let Cooper inside and he sat down on the blanket, with the cicada still in his mouth....still buzzing, and started to go to sleep.
Dale tried to pry Cooper's mouth open so that he could remove the cicada. Cooper was not having it. Finally, I suggested that we tempt Cooper to drop the bug with a doggie treat. That worked, thank goodness.
Dale got the cicada, which looked to be in pretty good shape, and put it outside in the yard. I think he probably should have killed it. I know I could not have done so. Can you imagine what would have squirted out of that thing if he squashed it? Eeeeewwwww!

*HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO COLIN!!!!Dale and I were so happy that we were able to celebrate with you! We love ya, buddy.
*I return to work on the 17th of this month. Bring it on!
*Danny's visit went well. We took him to Barton Springs and I think it nearly killed him. We had him swim across the pool with us. It's a pretty big stretch if you are not used to it. He loved it. Dale got a little pink. Must remember to use more sun screen.
That is all.

Ohmigosh, those little legs sticking out of Cooper's mouth! hahahaha
Our big fat cat Herman (in the LBB) used to LOVE to catch those things. He'd carry them around in his mouth in quite a similar fashion. He'd NEVER kill them...intentionally. He just loved the way their wings would flutter against his whiskers. They just oooog me out...in a Biblical plague kinda way. You feel me? I so can't want to imagine what would squirt out of them if squashed. Blech.
